Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility is an important component of the work of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management [STHM], where the School envisions that such a directive can have a positive impact on the wider community.

STHM engages its students to be involved in various activities that contribute to enhancing the quality of life for members of the communities that they assist. This work is facilitated through its student body: TAHSA Tourism and Hospitality Student Association.

STHM wishes to see its students taking the initiative and getting involved in community services, and aspiring towards promoting a better environment and a socially improved society.STHM interprets social responsibility to also infer that staff and students must be sensitive and ethical in their approach towards the environment, society and different cultures.  

Since May 2015, TAHSA has engaged in the following initiatives:

Tourism and Hospitality Management Students Help Takalana Bay Retreat (11 March 2016)

The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management helped clean up Takalana Bay Retreat on March 11 2016, following Tropical Cyclone Winston. Around 45 students rose to the challenge and worked hard to clear much of the debris that had been scattered widely across the property.

USP Presents Donated Christmas Gifts to Children at the Hilton Early Intervention Centre (16 Dec 2015)

STHM initiated this event and organized the collection of Christmas gifts to be distributed amongst the children at Hilton Early Intervention Center. This complements an earlier STHM initiative which was to acknowledge the good work that Hilton is doing to cater for the educational needs of its children.

School of Tourism & Hospitality Management Visits Hilton Early Intervention Center (28 OCT 2015)

Staff members of the School of Tourism & Hospitality Management (STHM) and Tourism and Hospitality Students Association (TAHSA) visited the Hilton Early Intervention Center in Suva on 28 October 2015, presenting educational materials and also spent some valuable time with the students.

International Coastal Clean-Up (19 Sept 2015)

More than 20 students from the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) participated in the International Coastal Clean-Up Day.

Clean-Up Campaign at USP (23 May 2015)

More than 20 tourism students participated in this activity which involved collecting and removing rubbish from drains, walkways, lawns and study areas.
